HPQ Silicium and Novacium Obtain IEC 62133 Certification for Lithium-Ion Cells

HPQ Silicium Inc. and its French technology partner Novacium SAS have secured IEC 62133 certification for their lithium-ion battery cells. This international safety standard is a critical requirement for global market access, removing substantial regulatory barriers for HPQ and Novacium.

IEC 62133 is a globally recognized standard for portable rechargeable lithium-ion batteries and battery packs. The certification validates the cells' electrical, mechanical, and chemical safety under normal operating conditions and reasonably foreseeable misuse.

The certification covers HPQ and Novacium's cylindrical cells in the widely adopted 18650 and 21700 formats, commonly used in consumer electronics, power tools, and medical devices. Combined with existing UN 38.3 (transport) and UL 1642 (USA) certifications, this completes the core set of globally recognized safety approvals.

With this certification, HPQ can move from technical evaluations to serious commercial negotiations and customer qualification programs with global OEMs. The company anticipates faster progress in product validation and the finalization of commercial agreements.
