HPQ Silicium Establishes Novacium in France to Develop New Energy Materials
HPQ Silicium Inc. has formed Novacium, a French startup, to enhance its innovation in materials and processes critical for renewable energy. The collaboration will focus on sectors including batteries and hydrogen production.

HPQ Silicium Inc., a Canadian silicon solutions company, has established Novacium, a new technology firm based in Lyon, France. The company will focus on developing advanced materials and processes essential for the renewable energy sector.
Novacium is founded by three research engineers—Jed Kraiem, Oleksiy Nichiporuk, and Julien Degoulange—who collectively bring over 50 years of experience. Their expertise spans innovative processes for hydrogen production via hydrolysis, photovoltaic technologies, and materials for batteries and energy storage, including silicon purification.
The founders previously collaborated at Apollon Solar, developing silicon-based technologies. Their backgrounds include work on silicon crystallization and purification for solar applications, as well as silicon metallurgy purification using plasma technology. The team has significant experience in the production and refining of silicon.
This partnership aims to support and optimize HPQ's existing PUREVAP™ QRR and NSiR processes. Novacium will also develop new processes for manufacturing silicon products for batteries, silicon oxide particles for energy storage, and carbon particles for supercapacitors. Additionally, the company intends to develop two innovative processes specifically for the hydrogen sector. Novacium operates from laboratory facilities on the AXEL'ONE site in the Lyon region.
