HPQ Silicium Inc. has filed a provisional patent application in France, expanding its pending patent for a continuous SiOx manufacturing process. The application covers the apparatus and methods required for continuous or semi-continuous production of high-performance silicon-based materials suitable for Li-ion battery anodes.

The new patent application supports the company's broader strategy to develop technologies for a vertically integrated, low-carbon, cost-effective, and high-performance silicon-based anode material manufacturing process. HPQ aims to build a patent portfolio focused on the necessary technological building blocks for scalable production.

The company's affiliate, Novacium SAS, has previously conducted successful tests demonstrating its capability to produce silicon-based anode materials that achieve high capacity values and maintain their performance after multiple charge cycles. The materials have also shown compatibility with existing manufacturing processes without significant modifications.

According to HPQ President and CEO Bernard Tourillon, silicon's potential for energy storage is substantial, but its integration into batteries has faced technical and economic challenges. This new patent application aims to address these challenges and enable the full utilization of silicon in next-generation energy technologies.

HPQ Silicium is currently focused on refining silicon from quartz and developing related manufacturing processes. The company seeks to improve cost-effectiveness and production volumes compared to traditional industrial silicon production methods.
