HPQ Silicium Partner Novacium Delivers Double-Capacity Prototype Batteries to French Army
HPQ Silicium's partner Novacium has delivered the first batch of prototype batteries for tactical radios to the French Army Technical Section (STAT). These batteries offer twice the energy capacity of current models.

HPQ Silicium's strategic partner, Novacium, has supplied the French Army Technical Section (STAT) with a first batch of prototype batteries designed for tactical radios. The delivery, which occurred in the third quarter of 2026, equips the radios with batteries possessing double the energy capacity of those currently in service.
Novacium utilized new GEN3 21700 cylindrical cells, replacing the older 18650 cells. This upgrade increases energy density to 261 Wh/kg from 160 Wh/kg, doubling the total battery capacity to 144 Wh from 72 Wh. The company has filed a patent for its optimized cell arrangement and enclosure design, ensuring compatibility with existing connectors and chargers.
This delivery is part of a contract awarded to Novacium in late June 2026 by STAT, which mandates the supply of these high-capacity prototype batteries in successive batches. Novacium successfully met two key objectives: doubling energy capacity while maintaining dimensional and connector compatibility with existing equipment.
STAT is set to commence an evaluation campaign for the batteries under operational conditions within the coming weeks. The goal is to potentially double the operating time for tactical radios in the field, without requiring modifications to current charging and connection systems. User feedback and evaluation results are expected soon.
