HPQ Silicon signs battery cell evaluation agreement with Aptera Motors

HPQ Silicon and its French partner, Novacium SAS, will provide high-capacity 21700 lithium-ion cells for technical testing by Aptera Motors. The cells utilize silicon-based anode material, which the companies are positioning as a solution to improve the energy storage capacity of standard battery formats.

Aptera Motors, a U.S.-based developer of solar-assisted electric vehicles, is currently preparing its 2026 Launch Edition for production following receipt of an EPA Certificate of Conformity. The evaluation provides a platform to test HPQ’s technology under the specific efficiency requirements associated with Aptera’s vehicle design.

HPQ CEO Bernard Tourillon stated that the agreement signals a transition from internal laboratory validation to application-level performance assessment. The agreement does not include a commercial supply commitment, but serves as a step toward determining whether the cells meet the standards required for potential future integration in electric vehicle systems.
