HPQ Silicon's Silicon-Anode Batteries Show 39% Higher Capacity Than Graphite

HPQ Silicon Inc. (HPQ) has announced significant advancements in its silicon-based battery technology developed by its affiliate, NOVACIUM SAS. The latest test results indicate that 18650 batteries utilizing GEN3 silicon-based anode materials deliver up to 39% greater capacity compared to commercially available graphite batteries after 150 charge-discharge cycles.

The tests, simulating real-world usage conditions, also revealed that the GEN3 materials improve performance by 30% over the previous GEN1 material and 16% over GEN2. Furthermore, the battery capacity degradation was minimal, showing only a 2% decrease after 150 cycles, only slightly more than the 1% degradation observed in the graphite benchmark.

Dr. Jed Kraiem, COO of Novacium, emphasized the importance of these findings. "These results continue to confirm our unique position as one of the only producers of advanced silicon anode material capable of delivering superior 18650 high-performance batteries," Kraiem stated. He added that the outcomes validate the company's capabilities and expertise in the field of silicon materials.

Beyond increased capacity, the GEN3 batteries demonstrated excellent durability. After 150 cycles, they maintained a capacity retention of 97.8%, closely approaching the graphite benchmark's 98.8% retention. This suggests that silicon-based materials can achieve graphite-like stability while offering considerably higher energy density.

HPQ Silicon focuses on green engineering for silica and silicon-based materials. The company aims to continue advancing battery technology by leveraging silicon's potential to enhance the performance and longevity of electric vehicles and other devices powered by lithium-ion batteries.
