HPQ's METAGENE™ Technology to Support Green Hydrogen Production

HPQ Silicium Inc. announced the signing of a commercial and industrial cooperation agreement with French company Pragma Industries. The partnership will focus on the production of green hydrogen utilizing the METAGENE™ technology developed by HPQ's technology partner, Novacium SAS.

The METAGENE™ technology, described as an autonomous, high-pressure green hydrogen production system, reportedly requires no electricity or external infrastructure. According to HPQ, the process is based on an aluminum-silicon alloy that generates 1.25 cubic meters of hydrogen per kilogram. This capability is highlighted as particularly suitable for light mobility applications, such as hydrogen-powered bicycles and other low-emission vehicles.

Pragma Industries, a company with over two decades of experience in fuel cells and sustainable mobility solutions, sees the METAGENE™ technology as a way to integrate hydrogen production units into its offerings. The company aims to leverage this technology to support last-mile transportation needs, enabling hydrogen supply without reliance on traditional, costly infrastructure.

Furthermore, Pragma Industries is involved in the MANGABHY project, which focuses on developing fuel cells for drones. HPQ suggests that the METAGENE™ technology's compactness and on-demand hydrogen generation are advantageous for the demanding requirements of drone applications. The company believes this capability could accelerate market growth for hydrogen-powered drones.
