HR Leaders Learn by Building AI Solutions

For years, HR leaders have been advised to "understand AI." This advice is now insufficient. While webinars and prompt engineering are useful, something fundamentally different emerges when leaders actively build AI solutions.

This hands-on process uncovers data limitations, model failures, the necessity of human judgment, and governance complexities. Redesigning workflows around AI is crucial for value capture, as indicated by McKinsey research showing leaders were 5.3 times more likely to report enterprise value when workflows were adapted.

Through the HIC C-Level AI Cohort, 12 HR leaders have developed advanced AI applications, demonstrating practical integration into HR functions. These leaders are applying AI to solve existing HR challenges.

Examples include Angela Cheng-Cimini, CHRO at The Chronicle of Philanthropy, who built a system translating organizational strategy into individual employee strategy maps. Nicole DuBois, chief people officer at Graham Windham, created an AI screening interview agent for foster care case planner candidates, testing it extensively due to the sensitive nature of the role.
