HSS Medical Supply Secures Distribution Agreement for Abbott ID NOW Platform
Medical distributor HSS Medical Supply has added Abbott’s ID NOW molecular testing platform to its catalog, expanding point-of-care diagnostic options for healthcare facilities.
New York-based HSS Medical Supply has finalized a vendor agreement with Abbott to distribute the ID NOW rapid molecular testing platform. The company, which maintains a portfolio of over 20,000 medical and pharmaceutical products, will now offer this benchtop diagnostic system to clinics, urgent care centers, and physician offices.
Abbott’s ID NOW platform provides molecular results for common respiratory infections, including Influenza A & B, RSV, and COVID-19, typically within 13 minutes. By moving from traditional rapid antigen testing to molecular amplification, healthcare providers can achieve higher diagnostic accuracy and potentially eliminate the need for confirmatory laboratory cultures.
The deployment of this technology at the point of care is intended to streamline clinic workflows and reduce unnecessary patient callbacks. According to company leadership, the platform also offers financial advantages for healthcare providers through higher insurance reimbursement rates associated with molecular diagnostic codes compared to standard antigen testing.
