Huawei has announced that its AI assistant, "Xiao Yi," achieved a score of 28.6 points out of a possible 30 in the theoretical section of the 56th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO 2026). The company stated this score surpassed the gold medal threshold.

The International Physics Olympiad is recognized for its complex theoretical problems that require advanced problem-solving skills and comprehensive understanding, rather than direct formula application. This year's theoretical challenges reportedly included topics such as fluid statics with relativistic effects, optical reflections, and calculations related to magnetic refrigeration cycles.

Huawei claims that "Xiao Yi's" performance demonstrates its capability in solving complex scientific problems and validates its Agentic system's potential for handling challenging multimodal tasks.

"Xiao Yi" is Huawei's proprietary AI assistant. It provides functions including AI knowledge Q&A, AI writing, document reading assistance, and coding support. The assistant is integrated across various Huawei devices and services.

Recently, "Xiao Yi" was reportedly integrated with the open-source Pangu 2.0 Pro model to enhance HarmonyOS system-level task execution, aiming to leverage Huawei's Ascend computing platform.
