Huawei and Qualcomm announced a multi-year patent licensing agreement on October 5, covering cross-licenses to their respective patent portfolios in 5G, artificial intelligence (AI), and computing.
The agreement also includes Qualcomm's acquisition of certain Huawei patents in the U.S. related to computing, AI, and networking technologies. This transaction remains subject to regulatory approvals, including a review under the U.S. Hart-Scott-Rodino antitrust law.
According to the companies, the arrangement is based on fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory licensing principles. The deal is limited strictly to patents and does not involve any broader business cooperation. This marks the first patent license agreement between the two companies that includes 5G technologies.
