13 October 2026

Huawei announced in Shanghai on October 13 that shipments of terminal products powered by its Kirin chips have exceeded 100 million units since the start of 2023. The announcement coincided with the company's presentation detailing its new Kirin 9050 chipset.

The Kirin 9050 series, including the Pro variant, has been central to Huawei's strategy to re-establish its proprietary chipsets. The company unveiled the detailed architecture of the Kirin 9050 series, noting its successful mass production with support from China's semiconductor industry. Huawei acknowledged that future development faces numerous challenges.

These challenges include toolchain and methodology development, process variation compensation, cross-layer interconnect overhead optimization, power consumption control, and benchmarking methods. Huawei stated that Kirin returned to the consumer market in August 2023, supporting the launch of multiple devices across its Mate, Pura, nova, and Changxiang product lines.

The introduction of the Kirin 9050 series marks a significant step in the continued evolution of Kirin following its market re-entry. Huawei emphasized that this return was made possible by the support of the semiconductor industry and that the technology continues to underpin the company's diverse product offerings.
