Huawei expects its HarmonyOS user base to exceed 100 million by the end of November, alongside new support for local app installation on PCs.
Huawei reported significant growth for its HarmonyOS platform, projecting the user base to surpass 100 million devices by late November. During the company’s recent office technology summit, executives confirmed that HarmonyOS-equipped PCs will gain support for sideloading applications before the end of the year, facilitating local software installations.
The hardware segment also saw updates, with Huawei’s HM650 desktop series receiving certification for 100% domestic component sourcing. Furthermore, the company has begun rolling out HarmonyOS 7 updates to its PC product line, marking another iteration in its push toward a unified, cross-device operating environment.
In the broader tech market, Discord has moved away from the Electron framework in favor of a Rust-based architecture, which company officials state has reduced the application's footprint from 4GB to 290MB. Meanwhile, Google has released Gemini Omni 1.2 Flash, reducing the cost of 720p video generation by 30%.
