Huawei Expands NearLink Wireless Monitoring to Additional HarmonyOS 7 Devices

Huawei has updated its HarmonyOS 7 software to enable low-latency ear monitoring for select handsets when paired with compatible NearLink wireless earbuds.

1 November 2026

Huawei is expanding its audio monitoring capabilities by bringing the 'NearLink ear return' (ear monitoring) feature to more smartphone models, including the Mate 80, 70, and 60 series, as part of the HarmonyOS 7.0.0.111 update. This functionality allows users to hear their voice in real-time through their earbuds while recording or using karaoke applications.

While Huawei previously introduced ear monitoring support, those earlier iterations were limited to wired connections. The new update leverages the company's proprietary NearLink wireless technology to provide low-latency feedback over Bluetooth-like wireless connections. The feature requires the use of specific hardware, namely the FreeBuds 7 series, to achieve the necessary synchronization.

Integration is currently limited to select applications such as Huawei Music and popular karaoke platforms, with other third-party services like NetEase Cloud Music not yet supporting the protocol. Users can activate the feature via the device's playback control center once a compatible headset is connected via the NearLink protocol settings.
