Huawei launches Mate 90 series with new Kirin chips
Huawei unveiled its Mate 90 smartphone series in Shanghai, featuring five models starting at RMB 5,999. The new lineup is powered by a next-generation Kirin chipset across all variants.

Huawei officially launched its Mate 90 series of smartphones at an autumn product event in Shanghai. The lineup includes five models: Mate 90, Mate 90 Pro, Mate 90 Pro Max, Mate 90 Pro Max Collector’s Edition, and Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design, with prices starting at RMB 5,999 ($895).
The primary upgrades focus on the device's performance, display, camera system, connectivity, and on-device artificial intelligence, all driven by a new generation of Kirin processors. The Mate 90 utilizes the Kirin 9030, while the Pro model features the Kirin 9035, emphasizing a balance between performance and power efficiency. The higher-end Pro Max and RS models are equipped with the Kirin 9050 Pro, which Huawei claims offers significant improvements in overall and AI processing power.
Display technology sees the introduction of second-generation Linglong displays on Pro models and above, boasting peak brightness up to 12,000 nits. Device protection is enhanced with third-generation Xuanwu strengthened Kunlun Glass across the lineup, offering improved drop resistance. Higher-end models also incorporate optical Kunlun Glass for camera covers and advanced water resistance ratings.
Camera improvements include a new primary color system focused on enhanced color accuracy and portrait performance. The Mate 90 Pro Max further features an advanced high-dynamic-range main camera and a 200-megapixel telephoto lens with enhanced stabilization. Connectivity options have also been upgraded with an integrated antenna architecture for stronger signals, and specific models support advanced multi-SIM capabilities.
The series also emphasizes on-device AI, with higher-end models integrating a large multimodal model. This allows for processing tasks directly on the smartphone, reducing reliance on cloud connectivity for certain AI functions. Huawei's strategy continues to differentiate models through varying chipsets, displays, and camera hardware to cater to different market segments.
