Huawei NG WAN Solution Enters Large-Scale Commercial Use

Huawei has achieved large-scale commercial deployment of its Next-Generation WAN (NG WAN) solution, the company announced on October 13 in Vienna. Huawei views the solution as a critical element to support telecommunications operators' growth in the future AI-driven landscape by enhancing network security, computing power, and automation.

The solution incorporates a multi-level security system covering device, link, and service layers. Huawei highlighted its Risk Detection and Response (RDR) system for autonomous threat detection and its NP-based (Network Processor) traffic control for enhanced monitoring. On the link layer, the implementation of post-quantum cryptography (PQC) and quantum key distribution (QKD) aims to bolster connection security. One Chinese operator reported that its TPU units thwarted numerous attacks and that PQC increased encryption performance by 40%.

For computing efficiency, Huawei's NG WAN utilizes AI Fabric to minimize packet loss, crucial for AI workloads. The Network Packet Load Balancing (NPLB) feature targets maximum link utilization, while the Starnet algorithm ensures zero packet loss over extended distances. A healthcare project in China reportedly reduced computing costs by 30% and increased average revenue per user (ARPU) for private lines fivefold.

Regarding network autonomy, Huawei has attained Autonomous Network Level 4 (AN L4) capabilities in fault resolution, network changes, optimization, and security. This enables automated, closed-loop network management. A South African operator is cited as the first globally to reach this level of autonomy on an IP network.

Over 60 operators worldwide have deployed Huawei's NG WAN solution. Huawei continues to collaborate with industry partners to accelerate its adoption and build next-generation networks supporting operator growth in the AI era.
