Huawei outlines grid-forming strategy for energy sector

Munich – Huawei Digital Power outlined its latest strategy for building future power grids at The Smarter E 2026 industry convention in Munich. According to the company, the strategy centers on integrated solutions that enhance grid stability and support the large-scale adoption of renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power, across Europe.

Steven Zhou, President of Huawei Digital Power's Smart PV & ESS Product Line, stated that European electricity markets are increasingly investing in grid infrastructure and battery energy storage systems (BESS). New grid codes and a shift towards more diverse grid services signal a demand for advancements in energy technologies. Zhou emphasized that future photovoltaic (PV) and BESS products must evolve to become primary energy sources.

A notable rebranding also occurred as Huawei's LUNA battery energy storage system was renamed LUTERRA. Zhou explained the name change symbolizes a transition from night-time illumination solutions to protecting the planet, reflecting the company's deepening commitment to grid stability and sustainable development.

Huawei's strategy leverages its fundamental 4T (Bit, Watt, Heat, Battery) technologies to accelerate the construction of a modern power system. The company reported successful commercial and industrial projects in Europe, including at the AHS Business Park in Germany and a Carrefour supermarket in Spain, where integrated solutions for PV, BESS, EV charging, and AI scheduling have yielded significant cost savings and improved energy efficiency.
