Huawei outlines new strategy for future energy grid formation

At The Smarter E trade fair in Munich, Huawei Digital Power outlined its strategy for integrated grid formation solutions aimed at enhancing the stability of power grids that incorporate a high share of renewable energy sources in Europe.

Steven Zhou, President of Huawei Digital Power's Smart PV & ESS Product Line, stated that wind and solar energy penetration in Europe is projected to reach 64% by 2030. This shift presents challenges, including reduced grid resilience and increased dispatch complexity, due to the decreasing proportion of traditional synchronous generators.

In response, Huawei is developing solutions that enable photovoltaic (PV) products and battery energy storage systems (BESS) to evolve into primary energy sources. Zhou announced the rebranding of Huawei's LUNA, previously an intelligent energy storage system, to LUTERRA. This rebranding signifies a shift from merely lighting up the night to protecting the planet.

Huawei is leveraging its strengths in integrating core 4T technologies—bit, watt, heat, and battery—to accelerate the development of modern energy systems. The company highlighted successful commercial and industrial projects in Europe, such as an AHS business park in Germany and a Carrefour supermarket in Spain, where integrated PV, BESS, and EV charging solutions have led to increased revenues and reduced electricity costs with shorter payback periods.
