Huawei Pay to Support Direct Octopus Card Top-Ups on Mate 90 Series
Huawei's upcoming Mate 90 flagship phones will feature Huawei Pay with the ability to directly top up Hong Kong's Octopus cards. This integration expands mobile payment options for public transport and retail.
Huawei's new flagship Mate 90 series phones are set to introduce enhancements in performance, imaging, and battery life. Alongside these upgrades, the built-in Huawei Pay service will gain a new capability: direct top-ups for Hong Kong's Octopus cards.
The integration allows users to add and recharge their Octopus cards directly within the Huawei Pay wallet on their Mate 90 devices. This feature extends the utility of the Octopus card beyond its physical form, enabling seamless digital transactions. Previous iterations of this functionality have been available on select Huawei Pura X and Mate 80 series models.
The Octopus card is a widely used contactless smart card in Hong Kong, facilitating payments for public transportation, including buses and MTR trains, as well as numerous retail outlets, convenience stores, restaurants, and entertainment venues. The availability of digital Octopus card top-ups via Huawei Pay aims to simplify payment processes for both residents and visitors.
Issued by Octopus Cards Limited, the Octopus card was first introduced in September 1997. It utilizes NFC technology for payments across various sectors, including transport, retail, and access control.
