Huawei Proposes New Generation OTN Solution for All-Optical AIDC Network
Huawei outlined its vision for an all-optical "LIGHTS" network during NetworkX 2026, powered by a next-generation Optical Transport Network (OTN) solution designed for AIDC.

VIENNA, Oct. 15, 2026 – Huawei presented its vision for an all-optical "LIGHTS" network during the NetworkX 2026 event, specifically designed for AIDC (All-optical Data Center Interconnect) and driven by a next-generation OTN solution. The company stated that this approach enables operators to capitalize on three waves of opportunities presented by AI.
The proposed OTN solution aims to enhance an all-optical AIDC network, a critical infrastructure for hyperscale data center interconnects. The "LIGHTS" network concept emphasizes six key characteristics: low latency, intelligent operation, green foundation, high reliability, Tbps-level capacity, and security assurance.
Gavin Gu, President of Huawei's Optical Transport Network Business Unit, introduced the next-generation OTN solution, which covers both DCI (Data Center Interconnect) and DCA (Data Center Architecture) scenarios. For DCI, the solution offers ultra-high speeds from 800 G to 2 T and an OTN capacity pool for efficient, multi-directional deployment. For DCA, Huawei offers end-to-end OXC architecture, WSON with millisecond response times, and integrated quantum key distribution (QKD) for enhanced security.
Huawei suggests that the all-optical "LIGHTS" network will empower operators to transition from selling bandwidth to offering value-added services and differentiated solutions across various industries. The company believes this will foster business growth for its clients in the AI era through industry collaboration.
