Huawei releases software update for its smart car system

Huawei has announced a new software update for its ADS 5 smart car system, rolling out in September. The update, identified as ADS Max V5.0.2, aims to upgrade both the navigation and parking experiences with a series of new and improved functionalities.

Navigation enhancements include the addition of convoy functionality, allowing users to create or join travel groups with real-time location sharing to prevent separation and provide synchronized navigation. A real-time intercom feature enables voice communication within the group. The system also expands navigation search capabilities to include the area around the vehicle and the destination, making it easier to find nearby points of interest such as convenience stores or charging stations. Additionally, navigation now offers richer charging station information, displaying availability, parking fees, and time-based electricity pricing.

For parking, the update introduces an Augmented Reality (AR) feature for car finding. Users can utilize the Huawei Kunqu app's ADS section to activate AR car finding, which provides precise real-time guidance to locate the vehicle in parking lots, even across different levels or outdoors. The ADS interface rendering has also been updated to display more detailed parking information, including elevator lobby indicators and color-coded parking zones.

Further improvements encompass more flexible route point settings for navigation assistance, optimized editing of waypoints, and enhanced guidance for charging stations, including visualization of charging spot availability. The system also provides information on charging brands and their availability at service areas.

This update is part of Huawei's broader development roadmap for the ADS 5 system, which was initially released in April 2026. The roadmap outlines planned features and versions extending through 2027, focusing on safety and convenience advancements.
