Huawei unveiled its new Kirin 9050 chipset series on October 13 in Shanghai, highlighting advancements in its semiconductor technology. Xu Songyu, head of Huawei's Wireless Terminal Chip Product Management Department, detailed the company's strategy for the next decade.

The Kirin 9050 series introduces a new "ta-lu" logic folding architecture, which Huawei states will offer notable improvements in performance and energy efficiency. The company has set ambitious targets, aiming for P-core frequencies to exceed 5GHz by 2031.

A key focus for the new chipset is its enhanced artificial intelligence capabilities. The Kirin 9050 series is designed to support on-device AI processing, featuring the industry's first 30 billion parameter Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) model, utilizing less than 2.5GB of memory. It also includes support for a 7 billion parameter dense model and a 1 billion parameter visual language model (VLM).

Huawei reported a 140% increase in AI performance and a 66% reduction in power consumption for the new NPU compared to previous generations. This development positions the Kirin 9050 series as a foundational element for Huawei's future mobile devices, driving AI integration across various applications.
