Huawei officially launched its annual flagship Mate 90 series smartphones today in China. At the event, Richard Yu, Huawei's board member and terminal business group chairman, announced that the Kirin chip is entering a new era.

The company introduced two new chip families: the "Performance Tau" chips, including the Kirin 9030 and 9035, and the "Logic Fold Tau" chips, the Kirin 9050 and 9050 Pro. Huawei stated that the entire Mate 90 series will be equipped with these new Kirin chips.

The standard Mate 90 model features the Kirin 9030 chip, promising a 27% overall performance increase through vertical integration. The Mate 90 Pro uses the Kirin 9035, offering a 20% overall performance boost. Both chips show notable improvements in CPU, GPU, and NPU performance compared to previous generations.

The high-end Mate 90 Pro Max and RS models are powered by the new Kirin 9050 Pro "Logic Fold Tau" chip. This chip reportedly enhances overall performance by 31%, featuring a 9-core, 16-thread CPU and significant gains in GPU and NPU capabilities. The Mate 90 Pro Max (12GB) model is equipped with the Kirin 9050 chip.
