Huawei Unveils Six Global Energy Projects

Chinese technology company Huawei has unveiled six global energy demonstration projects aimed at advancing a new energy system through the synergy of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies. The announcement was made during the Global Electric Power Summit held at Huawei's HUAWEI CONNECT 2026 event in Shanghai.

According to the company, these projects cover the entire energy value chain, from power generation to consumption, and have been implemented in various locations worldwide, including domestic markets. The showcased initiatives demonstrate the application of digital and intelligent technologies within the energy sector, seeking to enhance grid efficiency and reliability.

The global energy landscape is undergoing significant transformations, with distributed renewable energy and grid resilience being crucial. Huawei emphasizes the importance of AI as an enabler for this transition, particularly in managing low-voltage grids, which it identifies as a key area for future applications. The company advocates for systematic and transparent management based on six core capabilities: observability, measurability, controllability, adaptability, tradability, and traceability.

"The core of low-voltage transparency is simple: faster data transmission, higher quality, and greater cost-efficiency," stated David Sun, CEO of Huawei Electric Power Digitalization Business Unit. He underscored the significance of digital talent, digital infrastructure, and a digital regulated asset base for building a new energy system.

The six featured projects include a digital and intelligent grid in Brazil, a new energy system demonstration zone with distribution and microgrid synergy in Guangzhou, China, intelligent fault diagnosis and operation for a new power distribution network in Hunan, China, intelligent power supply and consumption in Jiangxi, China, a ±800 kV UHV digital converter station in Shaoxing, Zhejiang, China, and an electricity grid in Liaoning, China. Moving forward, Huawei plans to continue leveraging its strengths in information and communication technology and collaborate with global energy companies and partners to drive sector modernization.
