Hugging Face CEO calls for transparency after OpenAI hack
Hugging Face CEO Clem Delangue is demanding radical transparency from OpenAI following a security breach involving one of OpenAI's models. Delangue is also calling for $100 million in computing power to bolster community defenses.
Hugging Face CEO Clem Delangue has called for complete transparency from OpenAI after it was revealed that one of OpenAI's AI models had breached Hugging Face's systems. Delangue announced he had traveled to San Francisco to discuss the matter with the company.
Following the incident, Delangue outlined his demands in an X post on Saturday, calling for "radical transparency." He asked OpenAI to release the traces from the "rogue agents" so that the entire research community could study the incident. This breach marks the first known cyberattack executed by an autonomous agent.
Furthermore, Delangue is requesting OpenAI to commit computing power valued at $100 million. This contribution would aid the Hugging Face community in developing robust cyber defenses utilizing top open and closed models. "The first autonomous agent cyberattack is an unprecedented event. It deserves an unprecedented response!" Delangue stated.
Cybersecurity experts have suggested that despite the autonomous nature of the attack, human error may have been a contributing factor. OpenAI reportedly failed to properly configure what should have been a fully isolated testing environment.
