Humanoid Robot Sets New 100m Record at 8.86 Seconds
A humanoid robot named Tiangong, developed by Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center, has set a new world record in the 100-meter race. The robot achieved a time of 8.86 seconds, surpassing its previous record.

The Tiangong humanoid robot, developed by the Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center, has set a new world record in the 100-meter race at the second World Humanoid Robot Games. On August 25, the robot completed the 100-meter sprint in 8.86 seconds, breaking its previous record of 9.39 seconds set during the opening ceremony.
The competition saw a significant increase in participation, with 666 teams and 2056 robots from 16 countries across six continents competing. The number of events also expanded from 26 to 51, including 30 competitive races and 21 scenario-based competitions. New events introduced this year featured high-intensity challenges such as long jump, weightlifting, tug-of-war, and table tennis.
Scenario competitions focused on practical applications across various sectors, including industry, logistics, hospitality, domestic services, and firefighting. Tasks ranged from assembly and loading to household chores and book organization. Specialized events also tested dexterity, with challenges like powder weighing and bottle opening.
This event highlights the rapid advancements in humanoid robot speed and capability. The Tiangong robot's performance underscores the growing potential of humanoid robots in diverse fields.
