Hunan province targets European investment through new trade conferences

The Hunan-Europe Economic and Trade Cooperation Conference took place from October 27 to November 1 in Germany and Switzerland, serving as a platform for provincial officials to pitch Hunan as an industrial hub for European firms. The annual event, which began in 2023, aims to integrate local clusters into European supply chains.

In Germany, discussions centered on the automotive sector and advanced manufacturing. Provincial trade officials highlighted the presence of major German firms such as Bosch, Volkswagen, and BASF, noting a significant growth in turnover for German-funded operations in the region during the latest five-year plan. The delegation also participated in the German-Chinese Automotive Congress to facilitate industrial dialogue.

Operations in Switzerland focused on life sciences, healthcare, and artificial intelligence. Liu Suyue of the Hunan Department of Commerce cited the region's competitive advantages in logistics, industrial clustering, and human capital as key attractions for Swiss investors.

The provincial government intends to accelerate the development of ongoing projects to consolidate its position as an entry point for European companies looking to expand their footprint in China.
