HVAC Expert Details Furnace Sizing for Akron Homes in HelloNation

HelloNation has published an article outlining the essential considerations for Akron, Ohio, homeowners when choosing the correct furnace size. The piece, featuring insights from HVAC expert Reid Sittler of Quality Heating & Cooling, emphasizes that proper furnace sizing is crucial for ensuring comfort, energy efficiency, and long-term reliability, especially during harsh Ohio winters.

Sittler explains that furnace sizing involves more than just the square footage of a home. He notes that unique home characteristics, such as insulation levels, ceiling height, window quality, and air leakage, significantly impact heating needs. A furnace that is too small may run constantly without adequately heating the space, while an oversized unit can lead to rapid cycling, uneven temperatures, and excessive wear and tear.

The article also highlights the necessity of professional assessments during furnace installation. It stresses that contractors should conduct load calculations, evaluating heat loss, airflow, and ductwork condition, rather than relying on estimates. Furthermore, the piece discusses energy efficiency, measured by AFUE ratings, and the importance of selecting the appropriate fuel type—such as natural gas, electric heat pumps, or propane—based on availability and operating costs.

Finally, the importance of reliability is underscored, noting that it depends on proper installation, airflow, and regular maintenance, not just the equipment itself. Even a well-built furnace can underperform if not installed or maintained correctly. The article concludes that the right furnace for an Akron home is one that is correctly sized, efficiently installed, and consistently maintained, ensuring dependable performance and lasting comfort.
