Hystax releases open-source tool to reduce AI token costs

Hystax has released its OptScale Kompressor tool on GitHub under an MIT license, making the technology previously powering its internal AI platform available to the public. The software is designed to compress tokens for AI models without altering the underlying logic of the coding agents.

Internal testing on Terminal-Bench 2.1 demonstrated a 22.7% reduction in billing costs for coding agents. This performance benchmark is double that of previous industry solutions, according to the company.

As organizations increasingly rely on large language models for software development, the cost of tokens—the unit of text processed by these models—has become a significant financial factor. Hystax's move to open-source the compressor allows engineers to integrate the cost-saving technology directly into existing workflows without requiring code modifications.

The tool is now available for integration by developers looking to optimize resource consumption in automated coding tasks.
