Hyundai Motor Group to Deploy Boston Dynamics Atlas Robots
Hyundai Motor Group plans to deploy 25,000 Boston Dynamics Atlas robots across its global factories and build a U.S. facility with an annual production capacity of 30,000 robots.

Hyundai Motor Group is set to deploy 25,000 Boston Dynamics Atlas robots across its global factories in the coming years, marking a significant expansion in robotic integration. The company also announced plans to construct a new manufacturing facility in the United States with an annual production capacity of 30,000 robots.
To support this initiative, Hyundai Motor Group has inaugurated the Robot Metaplant Application Center (RMAC) near its Metaplant America facility in Georgia. This center will serve as a testing and training hub for the Atlas robots, facilitating their direct integration into the automotive manufacturing processes. The initial deployment for parts sorting is scheduled for 2028, with an expansion to parts assembly targeted by 2030.
Boston Dynamics has developed a production version of the Atlas robot, featuring 56 degrees of freedom and capable of lifting up to 50 kg. The robot is designed to operate in a wide temperature range and can autonomously navigate to a charging station to swap batteries. The company is also exploring applications for Atlas in industries beyond automotive, including aerospace, semiconductor, logistics, food and beverage, and life sciences.
As automation increases, Hyundai Motor Group has addressed concerns about job displacement, stating that the operation, training, and maintenance of these robotic systems will still require human employees, ensuring continued employment opportunities.
