Hyundai Motor reports 22.1% profit drop for first nine months of 2026
Hyundai Motor’s net profit declined to 6.56 trillion won through September 2026. The automaker's third-quarter earnings missed analyst expectations due to tax burdens.

Hyundai Motor has released its financial results for the first nine months of 2026, showing a divergence between stable revenue and falling profits. The company’s total revenue for the period reached 140.26 trillion won, a marginal increase of 0.6% year-over-year. However, net profit attributable to shareholders dropped by 22.1% to 6.56 trillion won.
The third quarter proved particularly difficult. Revenue for the quarter fell 3.4% to 45.11 trillion won, while net profit declined 24.6% to 1.7 trillion won. While quarterly operating profit managed a 5.5% increase to 2.68 trillion won, the net income was significantly impacted by non-operating expenses and tax burdens, placing it well below consensus analyst estimates.
This performance highlights the broader pressure on global automakers to maintain profitability amid shifting consumer demand for electric and hybrid vehicles. Hyundai Motor, which manufactures a range of combustion and alternative fuel vehicles under the Hyundai and Genesis brands, did not provide updated financial guidance for the remainder of the year.
The company is scheduled to host a formal earnings conference on October 29, 2026, to discuss these results and provide further context on its operational strategy.
