IBM Bob AI tool offers self-hosted deployment for enterprises

IBM has announced a self-hosted deployment option for its AI agentic software development platform, IBM Bob. This allows organizations to run the AI-powered development and modernization tool on-premises, in private clouds, or in air-gapped environments, maintaining full control over sensitive code and data.

The move addresses a critical need for enterprises, particularly those in regulated industries, to comply with strict security and governance requirements. By keeping AI operations within their own infrastructure, businesses can avoid moving sensitive source code, proprietary data, or mission-critical workflows to external services, which can pose risks.

"The future of enterprise AI will depend on security, governance and sovereignty," said Neel Sundaresan, GM of AI and Automation at IBM. "Organizations need AI that operates inside environments they have control over, especially when working with sensitive code and regulated data. Bob's self-hosted deployment provides a way for enterprises to bring agentic AI directly to those environments."

This deployment flexibility allows companies to bring AI to their data rather than moving data for AI. According to IBM's Institute for Business Value, a significant majority of executives find data residency and sovereignty requirements challenging. IBM Bob's self-hosted option aims to help address these challenges, enabling AI adoption across diverse enterprise infrastructure landscapes while ensuring data protection and compliance.
