IBM Reports New Quantum Advantage Findings
IBM has added three new entries to its quantum advantage tracker, which the company states clearly demonstrate quantum computers outperforming classical systems.

IBM announced on Thursday three new results that it says clearly demonstrate quantum advantage, a state where a quantum computer performs a task significantly faster than a classical computer.
The new findings utilize different approaches to mitigate errors and validate quantum outcomes. A key challenge in the field has been proving the utility of quantum computers on current hardware, which is limited and prone to errors. Verifying results that a classical computer couldn't generate in a reasonable timeframe has been a significant hurdle.
"Trusted computing when you can do classical simulations is irrelevant," said IBM's Jay Gambetta. "Trusted computing when you can't do classical simulations is a big deal."
The research domain has grappled with demonstrating quantum computers' promised speedups on existing hardware. While algorithms are mathematically proven to run faster on quantum machines, current systems are often too constrained or error-prone for efficient execution.
IBM's quantum advantage tracker was launched to address these challenges, aiming to provide a clear measure of progress. These latest results underscore the company's efforts to advance and practically validate quantum computation.
