Space data company ICEYE and connectivity infrastructure provider Nokia have announced a partnership to develop secure, sovereign, and high-performance satellite communication systems for governments. These systems are intended to support a range of missions, including defense, border security, and emergency services.

The jointly developed systems will grant nations full ownership and control over the satellites, ground infrastructure, and terminals. The goal is to provide resilient communication capabilities when terrestrial networks are disrupted or compromised. The first communications satellites are expected to launch in 2028.

The collaboration combines ICEYE's experience in delivering sovereign satellite missions with Nokia's expertise in secure networking technologies. Together, the companies will integrate satellites, ground infrastructure, and ruggedized end-user terminals, extending ICEYE's existing business model for space-based intelligence to communications services.

ICEYE CEO Rafal Modrzewski stated the partnership aims for rapid development of satellite communication capabilities aligned with national needs. Nokia's Justin Hotard added that the collaboration will provide nations with the situational awareness, connectivity, and control required for operations in contested environments.
