IDrive e2 publishes object storage performance comparison report

IDrive has published its 2026 IDrive e2 Object Storage Performance Report, a benchmark assessing the performance of its e2 object storage against several leading S3-compatible services. The report measures upload and download throughput and operational performance across various object sizes and concurrency levels.

The report aims to provide organizations with transparent performance data to inform infrastructure decisions for workloads such as backup, artificial intelligence, analytics, and cloud-native applications. IDrive has also made its testing methodology and configuration publicly available to promote reproducibility and informed evaluation.

According to the findings, IDrive e2 recorded the highest average upload throughput across all 12 tested PUT workload configurations, reaching a maximum of 1,879.48 MiB/s. For download performance, IDrive e2 achieved the highest throughput in 9 out of 12 GET workload categories, while Backblaze B2 showed higher throughput in three lower-concurrency scenarios.

In operational performance testing, IDrive e2 averaged 9.8 ms HEAD request latency and processed approximately 71,468 object entries per second. However, AWS S3 demonstrated the lowest run-to-run variance, with a coefficient of variation of 6.7%, compared to IDrive e2's 11.5%, indicating differences in consistency among providers.

IDrive noted that the tests were conducted from a single client location and network path, and performance may vary by geographic region, ISP, and workload characteristics. The report focuses solely on performance and does not compare pricing, durability, features, or customer support.
