The breach reportedly involved the theft of personal data, including names, driver's license numbers, and passport details. IDScan became aware of the incident around September 1st and subsequently confirmed the breach. Security researcher Brian Krebs reported on the same day that scans of 153 million U.S. driver's licenses were being offered for sale on the dark web, though the source of the data was initially unclear.
Krebs also reportedly found a driver's license belonging to U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin on the dark web. The Pentagon has acknowledged awareness of the event, and the FBI is investigating. The full scope and impact of the breach are still under investigation.
