IGT and MGM Springfield introduce wide-area progressive jackpot games in Massachusetts
IGT and MGM Springfield have launched the first wide-area progressive slot network in Massachusetts, featuring a dedicated area with 20 linked jackpot games.

IGT has installed 20 Wheel of Fortune-themed slot machines at MGM Springfield, marking the first time a wide-area progressive (WAP) jackpot system has been available to players in Massachusetts. These machines are electronically linked, allowing the jackpot pool to accumulate across the network, with reset values ranging from $200,000 to $1.125 million.
MGM Springfield has created a designated zone to house the new gaming cabinets. Ariam Aponte, the casino's vice president of operations, stated that the introduction of these games is intended to differentiate their gaming floor and offer new jackpot opportunities to local patrons. IGT CEO Hector Fernandez noted that the launch coincides with the 30th anniversary of the Wheel of Fortune slot portfolio, which IGT has produced under a long-term licensing agreement with Sony Pictures Television.
Since their introduction in 1996, the Wheel of Fortune games have become a significant part of IGT’s portfolio, having paid out over $3.6 billion in prizes. IGT holds exclusive rights to produce these games through 2034. The company continues to provide gaming and financial technology solutions to global operators from its Las Vegas headquarters.
