IMARC Group Analyzes Investment in India's Ayurvedic Medicine Manufacturing

IMARC Group, a market research firm, has published an analysis highlighting the significant potential and investment landscape for Ayurvedic medicine manufacturing in India.

The report indicates that establishing such facilities presents an attractive prospect for companies in the healthcare, FMCG, and herbal products sectors. India's Ayush sector, which includes traditional medicine systems, is valued at approximately USD 43 billion. The number of registered Ayush MSMEs has surpassed 92,000, with exports of Ayush and herbal products reaching around USD 689 million in 2024-25.

The investment required for an Ayurvedic medicine manufacturing plant varies significantly based on the range of dosage forms produced, the level of automation, and the targeted quality standards. A small unit focusing on classical preparations like powders and oils would represent a modest investment, while a Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)-compliant plant with multiple dosage forms and an in-house laboratory requires moderate capital. Large-scale facilities incorporating extraction processes and meeting export standards necessitate substantial financial commitment.

According to the report, investment for a small classical unit can range from INR 1โ€“3 crore, a multi-dosage GMP plant from INR 10โ€“30 crore, and a large integrated plant from INR 80โ€“200 crore. Raw materials and packaging constitute a significant portion, 50-60%, of operating costs.

The analysis provides investors with a comprehensive guide covering product range, market demand, production processes, machinery and raw material needs, location considerations, and detailed cost and financial breakdowns. Upcoming revised GMP regulations, expected to be enforced by July 2029, are poised to raise manufacturing standards, favoring well-managed and compliant facilities.
