IMARC Group details investment landscape for Indian EV battery manufacturing
A new report from IMARC Group outlines the capital requirements and operational dynamics for setting up electric vehicle battery facilities in the Indian market.

Electric vehicle (EV) battery manufacturing is becoming a focal point for industrial investment in India as the country looks to localize its supply chain. According to IMARC Group, project costs vary significantly based on operational scope, ranging from approximately 40 million INR for a basic assembly unit to as much as 12,000 million INR for a large-scale giga-factory.
Raw material procurement, including cathode and anode components, represents 70% to 80% of total operating costs, making supply chain management a decisive factor for competitiveness. While government production-linked incentive schemes exist, actual domestic output currently lags behind market demand, creating a gap for early entrants with established technology.
IMARC projects net profit margins of 5% to 10% for optimized facilities. Future viability in the sector depends on several variables, including the ability to secure offtake contracts with automotive manufacturers, the successful navigation of safety certifications, and the management of long-term material price fluctuations.
