IMARC report details setup costs for peanut butter manufacturing in India
A new industry analysis by IMARC Group outlines the capital requirements and market outlook for establishing peanut butter manufacturing facilities in India through 2034.

The Indian peanut butter market is projected to reach USD 305.2 million by 2034, growing at a CAGR of 6.56%. As India remains one of the world's largest producers of groundnuts, the domestic processing industry is positioned to capitalize on growing consumer demand for protein-rich breakfast and fitness food products.
According to the latest IMARC analysis, investment requirements are highly variable, contingent upon production capacity and automation levels. Initial costs for small-scale operations range from INR 50 lakh to 1.5 crore, while large-scale export-grade facilities capable of processing over 15,000 tonnes annually require investments between INR 45 crore and 70 crore. Mid-sized plants producing 6,000 tonnes per year typically necessitate an investment of INR 18–30 crore.
Operating efficiency remains the primary driver of profitability, with raw materials and packaging accounting for 70% to 80% of total operating expenses. The report estimates that well-managed facilities can achieve net profit margins between 12% and 18%. Key success factors include sourcing high-quality kernels, ensuring food safety compliance—specifically regarding aflatoxin levels—and balancing internal branding with private-label supply contracts.
For prospective investors, the report serves as a framework for site selection, machinery procurement, and financial modeling. Establishing a bankable project requires navigating technical requirements such as FSSAI licensing and infrastructure for specialized processing equipment like automatic roasters and sorting systems.
