Immortal Dragons, a significant longevity fund, has announced a strategic investment in Etheros Pharmaceuticals. The biotechnology company is developing a new class of drug candidates aimed at combating diseases of aging and potentially slowing human aging.

The company's research focuses on water-soluble fullerene derivatives designed to act as catalytic antioxidants. These compounds aim to neutralize oxidative stress, which is implicated in cellular damage and age-related conditions, addressing limitations in potency and distribution that affected earlier antioxidant approaches.

The scientific basis draws from fullerene chemistry, discovered in 1985 and recognized with the 1996 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Etheros has developed proprietary water-soluble derivatives that can mimic the body's endogenous antioxidant enzymes. Unlike conventional antioxidants that are consumed, Etheros's compounds are catalytic, with a single molecule capable of neutralizing thousands of reactive oxygen species per second.

Early studies have shown promising results across various disease models, including neuroprotective effects in models for ALS and Parkinson's disease. In mice studies, a 14% increase in median lifespan was observed when treatment began in middle age. Older mice treated with the compound also showed improved performance in learning and memory tests.

Etheros Pharmaceuticals will use the funding to advance its lead compound toward human clinical trials. The company's strategy involves establishing early proof-of-concept and building a broader platform targeting major age-related diseases.
