Implantica Launches RefluxStop in U.S. Market
Implantica AG has launched its RefluxStop device for GERD treatment in the U.S. following FDA approval. The device received positive reception from surgeons at the American Foregut Society meeting.
Implantica AG, a medtech company, has officially launched its RefluxStop device in the United States market. The launch event coincided with the American Foregut Society (AFS) 2026 Annual Meeting in Washington D.C., where the company reports the device was well-received by leading surgeons and gastroenterologists.
RefluxStop recently received Premarket Approval (PMA) from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The device aims to treat Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) by restoring natural anatomy without encircling the esophagus, a departure from traditional anti-reflux surgeries. Implantica states this approach is designed to minimize common side effects like dysphagia, or difficulty swallowing.
A panel discussion focused on RefluxStop at the AFS meeting drew over 120 attendees, including specialists in foregut disease. The discussion, moderated by former AFS President Dr. John Lipham, highlighted the device's mechanism of action and its potential to address GERD in millions of American patients who may not be ideal candidates for existing treatments.
Dr. Peter Forsell, Founder and CEO of Implantica, noted the significant interest from U.S. medical professionals at the meeting. The company believes RefluxStop addresses a substantial unmet need in GERD treatment, as a considerable percentage of patients continue to experience symptoms despite medication. Implantica anticipates the device will fill a critical gap in current treatment options.
