India Aims to Be a Global Hub for Space Sector

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reiterated strong government support for the nation's burgeoning space sector. On Tuesday, he engaged with founders and CEOs from 20 spacetech startups to discuss the future trajectory of India's space industry, including expanding commercial applications of space assets and establishing the country as an international hub.

Modi highlighted India's potential to offer a "strong, innovative, and commercially viable model" to the world in the space domain. He encouraged startups to collaborate beyond core aerospace operations, suggesting potential partnerships between space debris management firms and environmental organizations, or satellite analytics providers and agricultural universities to enhance crop yields.

The startup leaders presented their work and capabilities in areas such as satellite fabrication, semi-cryogenic launch systems, space situational awareness, and AI-driven earth observation. Prime Minister Modi assured the founders of continued government backing as they build India's future space capabilities.

The introduction of India's Space Policy 2023 has accelerated private sector involvement and attracted significant investment. The industry is projected to reach $77 billion by 2030, with the government implementing measures like venture capital funds and technology adoption schemes to foster growth.
