India Ecommerce Festive Season: Competition Shifts to Inventory Management
Ahead of India's ecommerce festive season, marketplaces and enablers are shifting focus to integrated, tech-driven solutions. The emphasis is moving from basic support to comprehensive commerce infrastructure.

India's ecommerce sector is reorienting its festive season strategies towards more integrated and technology-driven commerce infrastructure. Marketplaces and ecommerce enabler companies are increasingly focusing on solutions that extend beyond basic support functions like payments, storefronts, and logistics.
Marketplaces are developing tools and infrastructure that go beyond the storefront. Companies like Amazon have launched AI-powered seller assistants to help merchants with tasks such as catalog creation, advertising, inventory management, and cross-border expansion. The goal is to ensure the entire order process, from inventory and fulfillment to payment and returns, operates seamlessly.
Inventory management has emerged as a critical area. Simply having sufficient stock is no longer enough; brands need to anticipate customer demand and ensure products reach consumers quickly. Snapdeal CEO Achint Setia highlights the need to balance supply and demand across various channels, including online stores, brand websites, and physical stores. AI is aiding in more effective demand forecasting.
"Brands increasingly prefer unified technology solutions that provide an integrated view of inventory across multiple sales channels. During high-volume events like the festive season, that visibility becomes a strategic advantage," said Kapil Makhija, MD and CEO of Unicommerce. This approach is crucial as mismanaging inventory leads to lost sales or increased costs.
The competition is shifting beyond just the lowest price. Consumers are becoming more discerning, valuing quality, fast deliveries, and a frictionless experience. Successful companies are combining demand generation with operational excellence, leveraging technology and AI to improve every stage of the customer journey, from inventory planning to personalized engagement.
