India Secures ₹1 Lakh Crore Investment Commitments Under Semicon 2.0
India's government has secured approximately ₹1 Lakh Crore (around $11-12 billion) in investment commitments under the new Semicon 2.0 mission. These funds are intended to bolster the country's domestic electronics value chain.

India's government has garnered investment commitments totaling approximately ₹1 Lakh Crore (around $11-12 billion) under the recently approved Semicon 2.0 mission. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced at Semicon India 2026 that global players in capital equipment, materials, specialty gases, and advanced packaging have pledged to deploy these funds over the next two to three years to enhance India's domestic electronics value chain.
The investment figures are derived from discussions between the minister and various companies, some of which have yet to publicly disclose their specific investment plans. Notably, U.S.-based semiconductor firm Applied Materials announced a $5 billion (approximately ₹48,000 Crore) investment commitment.
Vaishnaw also highlighted the government's objective to engage at least 200 startups and companies within the Semicon 2.0 framework. During the initial phase of the mission, over 105 startups focused on chip design, with around 20 securing venture capital funding totaling approximately ₹800 Crore.
"Semicon 1.0 was about laying the foundation and learning to walk. Semiconductor 2.0 is more about establishing the ecosystem," Vaishnaw explained. India's semiconductor industry is poised for significant growth, with domestic manufacturing development being a key strategy for the nation's expanding electronics market.
