Indian AI startups shift focus to Silicon Valley for growth

Indian startups such as Reo.Dev and Coreworks AI are increasingly adopting a dual-market strategy, maintaining engineering teams in India while scaling commercial operations in Silicon Valley. This shift comes as funding for Indian AI startups reached $1.1 billion in the first nine months of 2026, marking significant momentum for the sector.

Proximity to the U.S. market is often driven by the need for deeper engagement with enterprise clients, faster feedback loops, and access to a mature ecosystem of operators. Suhas Motwani, cofounder of The Product Folks, notes that while the corridor between India and the U.S. is a proven path for growth, companies must be cautious about moving too early without a clear business objective.

As the industry matures, the challenge for Indian startups—most of which operate at the application layer—is to establish defensible value. With AI models becoming increasingly commoditized, technical features alone are no longer sufficient. Long-term success now depends on deep customer integration and the ability to solve specific, complex enterprise workflow issues.
