Indian E-commerce Platforms Use AI to Attract Sellers
Major Indian e-commerce players like Flipkart, Amazon, and Meesho are deploying AI tools to automate seller operations and enhance user experience. This strategy aims to boost seller efficiency and platform revenues.

The AI competition in India's e-commerce sector is extending to sellers, with major online marketplaces deploying artificial intelligence tools to automate various operations.
Companies such as Amazon India, Meesho, and Flipkart are integrating AI to streamline processes like catalogue creation, inventory management, and advertising. The goal is to improve seller efficiency and, consequently, increase platform revenues. Amazon India has launched an AI assistant to aid sellers in managing onboarding and international expansion, while Meesho's AI handles up to 300,000 seller calls daily. Flipkart utilizes its AI-ready platform for demand forecasting and pricing intelligence.
While sellers are generally optimistic about AI's potential, they emphasize that the technology should serve as a supportive tool rather than replacing human elements like brand identity and customer empathy. Adoption remains varied, with pricing and discounts still being key purchasing drivers.
Separately, the Indian startup ecosystem is seeing other developments. Wealthtech startup Jar is facing legal challenges after a court ruling. Corpus Labs is reportedly seeking pre-seed funding for its financial analysis platform. Consumer appliance maker Atomberg has approved plans for an IPO and a pre-IPO placement to raise capital. Additionally, July's UPI transaction data shows PhonePe and Google Pay maintaining dominance, though with a slight decrease in market share.
