Indian EV Firm Vimag Begins Magnet-Free Motor Production
Bengaluru-based Vimag Labs has commenced production at its first facility in Jhajjar, Haryana, and exported its initial batch of magnet-free electric motors.

Indian electric vehicle technology firm Vimag Labs has started production of magnet-free motors at its new manufacturing facility in Jhajjar, Haryana. The company announced on October 13 that manufacturing operations have begun and the first batch of motors has been exported.
Vimag Labs plans to invest approximately 500 million rupees (US$5.21 million) in a phased manufacturing expansion in India, with spending linked to customer demand. The facility is designed to scale production to 10,000 motor and control systems per month as volumes increase.
The company is initially focusing on mid-power systems, with plans to develop higher-rated systems, 570 kW and above, as customer programs advance. Vimag Labs previously raised US$5 million in a Series A funding round and has signed a manufacturing memorandum of understanding with Jendamark Pvt Ltd.
This development comes as India seeks to reduce its reliance on imported rare-earth magnets for EV motor production, a key component where the country currently faces import dependency.
