India's Public Relations (PR) industry achieved revenues of ₹2,500 crore (approximately $300 million USD) in the fiscal year 2023, demonstrating a robust 19% year-on-year growth. This expansion positions the Indian PR sector significantly ahead of global growth rates. The Public Relations Consultants Association of India (PRCAI) unveiled these findings in its SPRINT 2024-25 report, which forecasts the industry's value to reach ₹4,570 crore (approximately $545 million USD) by FY30.

The report, conducted by Ipsos and Astrum Reputation Advisory, highlights that the industry's growth is increasingly driven by a strategic emphasis on delivering tangible business outcomes rather than solely media placements. Key factors fueling this expansion include the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI), a growing focus on purpose-driven communication, the rise of influencer marketing, and the crucial need for regional PR strategies. Corporate communicators increasingly view PR as a driver of business impact, leading to higher PR budget allocations within overall marketing spends.

Employment in the Indian PR sector is also set for significant growth. The industry employed 13,300 professionals in FY23 and is projected to add substantial numbers, reaching an estimated 22,700 professionals by FY30, reflecting an 8% CAGR in headcount. However, the industry faces a critical challenge with talent retention, as evidenced by a 16% attrition rate in FY23. Issues related to compensation, work-life balance, and workplace culture are cited as primary drivers of employee turnover, particularly among the Gen Z workforce.

Technological advancements and evolving communication channels are reshaping the landscape. AI integration is seen as a key driver, though the industry must navigate the challenges of AI-generated misinformation. Influencer marketing is gaining prominence, with its contribution to service revenue expected to rise. Simultaneously, there is a strong recognized need for hyperlocal engagement and culturally nuanced storytelling to effectively reach diverse regional audiences. The report also emphasizes the importance of authenticity in purpose-driven and ESG communications, warning against "greenwashing."
