Indian Retail's Future is Omnichannel
India's retail sector is shifting towards an omnichannel model, integrating online, quick commerce, and physical stores. Consumer shopping patterns are evolving with a focus on convenience and speed.

The future of India's retail landscape is increasingly defined by an omnichannel approach, blending online channels, quick commerce, and physical store experiences. Evolving consumer habits and the rise of quick commerce are reshaping traditional purchasing journeys.
A panel discussion at Inc42's D2C & Retail Summit highlighted that quick commerce platforms are becoming modern replacements for local kirana stores. This shift is supported by changes in consumer payment behavior, moving from utility-based spending to more discretionary purchases.
However, a different perspective noted that consumers are willing to spend more only on products offering true value. For instance, legacy footwear major Liberty Shoes emphasized that premiumization involves enhancing product features like comfort or integrated technology, rather than just increasing prices.
The panel concluded that while India's consumption is becoming convenience-led, not all categories will fully transition online. Brands need to be present across multiple touchpoints โ including social media, e-commerce, D2C websites, and offline retail โ to cater to diverse consumer behaviors throughout their shopping journeys.
